Sociology is a course that fulfills all degree requirements and transfers easily to any institution. However, this is not the only reason to enroll in this course. Sociology has traditionally been a very popular course among college students. This is true for several reasons. First, it teaches you how the real world operates. Many of the forces that control our lives are hidden from us. Sociology teaches us about these forces and thereby gives us the power to take charge of our lives. Second, sociology allows us to become aware of our own prejudices and biases (nobody's perfect!). Once aware, we can then begin to eliminate some of the excess baggage that's been weighing us down. In the end we will live happier lives and truly begin to appreciate the rich diversity of life. Finally, sociology is interesting because it speaks to issues we all are concerned with: values, family, culture, gender, race, money, work, status, group membership, marriage, sex, etc. The knowledge that you gain will serve you for the rest of life.
