Ethics is concerned with fundamental and general questions about morality and values. Examples: What is a moral act? What does morality require of us? Why should we be moral? Are moral claims objectively true? What is justice? What is a just society?

This course focuses on responses to these questions by major figures in the history of ethics, from Socrates to the twentieth-century philosophers.
